The work Undine is inspired by Fouque ́s female elemental spirit from 1811.
The contrast between the human world and the elemental world, the real and the seemingly unreal but perceptible. Illusion, projection, idealisation, desire and denial blur in the ambivalent structure of human relation and interaction. There is no clear affiliation, human and nature, light and dark flow into each other in an abstract way.
The touchable and intangible force of connection. Water as the elemental source of life, revered in various cultures through deities and myths, stands for the feminine spirit Undine, whose name derives from the Latin "unda" - wave.
"Aus dunst´gem Tal die Welle,
Sie rann und sucht ihr Glück;
Sie kam ins Meer zur Stelle
Und rinnt nicht mehr zurück." (Fouqué, 1811)
